You have 35 minutes to complete each section (including the experimental section). Your full writing sample is sent to every school you apply to. Law schools are not looking for your expertise in law they are evaluating your ability to organize your thoughts with clarity, using appropriate grammar and language, that shows an ability to defend your position. Your position must be clear and decisive with strong, supported criticism of the opposite position. ![]() This section provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your argumentative writing skills. In the writing section, you are presented with a situation, and you must choose between two positions or courses of action and defend your choice. Most schools require a writing sample as a part of their application packet. You are encouraged to take the writing test before taking the multiple-choice sections. The LSAT writing section is available to take separately from the rest of the exam, starting eight days before your scheduled test appointment. You will not know which section is scored and which section is not scored, as the placement of the untimed section varies and is formatted the same as the scored section. The unscored section is used to evaluate questions for inclusion in future examinations.
